ecclesiastic
It is our honor to serve the stained glass history of Portland and the Northwest. Restoration of the work created by our predecessors is dear to our hearts. We understand that a single stained glass panel does not stand alone: it is an element that fulfills an architectural space.
Our mission is to preserve a panel's original intention. We begin our survey of every restoration through the eye of conservation to honor preservation of the past. Unfortunately, lead and zinc do not last forever, and oftentimes panels that are 70 years old and over need to be rebuilt with new metal. Irreplaceable broken glass can be salvaged through edge gluing techniques using conservator's epoxy. When not salvageable, we do our best to find the best possible substitute.
Many ecclesiastic stained glass projects call for a trained hand and keen eye. Sometimes replication of antique painted pieces that are sadly no longer salvageable is necessary, or emulation might be needed when incorporating new panels along with old.
Through our time restoring glass in Portland, we have become versed in the painting applications and techniques of the Povey Bros. Studio, Albert Gerlach, and Bert Willemse. We paint using traditional glass stains which are kiln-fired to 1200F, binding the stain to the glass for centuries to come.
